Summary

Elijah Jackson is a Diné artist from Kansas currently seeking out a bachelors degree in 3D animation at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He mainly works on character rigging and modeling and has experience in Autodesk Maya and Substance painter.

For my own practice I specialize in 3D modeling with an emphasis on character modeling and modeling for real-time engines. With these character models I enjoy the challenge of rigging for characters to be able to solve the challenges of creating intuitive controls for animation with Maya’s rigging assets and python language. An example of one of my works is a rig of a prey mantis with a range of control slides, they open up the wings, control speed, flutter of wings and full control over eyelids and pupils.
As we near the beginning of what seems like an unpredictable future and where we have space hotels being built in the 2020s you can't help but to speculate. I find a curiosity in the science-fiction genre today that forces the viewer to reconcile with the ideas of good and bad outcomes of the future. As we reach the quarter mark of the 21st century in an evolving generation you become painfully aware of the passage of time and critique economic systems that steal the earth away from us.
My Interest in the vastness of space informs the 3D modeling work I create to address questions of the possible negative outcomes the future can hold. In thinking about my current goals as an artist I take into account this idea of technological dystopia through character design of both human and robotic forms. An example of this idea is from my current project reflecting this idea with a robotic quadruped character based off of a malevolent AI.
